Onani Early Literacy

This project helps parents and teachers in Malawi, teach children aged 3 to 6 to read and write in Chichewa, the national language. The curriculum uses the letters A, E, I, O, U, N, M, B, and G. By the end, each child owns four storybooks made from words using those same letters, applying new skills to engaging stories.

Please consider making a change to a child’s story by giving a Gift of Reading at home or school. With a £10 donation, the child receives the Onani Literacy Kit that contains four reading books and a teaching poster to make learning easier. Multiple and recurring donations are most welcome.

Young Authors & Illustrators Workshop

I teach young people how to create their very own illustrated books. We begin with story writing, where they develop their narratives. Then, using clay modelling, they bring their characters and scenes to life, turning their sculptures into vivid book illustrations. I guide them through the entire process, from developing ideas to combining their stories and art into a finished book, giving them a true sense of creative accomplishment.

Onani Education Research Centre

I propose to establish a research centre for children in Malawi. Beyond providing culturally relevant resources, the centre will explore community-led interventions. The findings will inform national education policies, creating scalable models that improve education and empower the next generation across Malawi.

My family name “Malewezi” means zebra stripes in Chichewa, the language spoken in Malawi, Zambia and Mozambique. I’m a Permanent Deacon in the Catholic Church, ordained on July 16, 2023. Born and raised in Malawi, Africa, my life’s work is to help people with their fundamental needs. This is guided by the values of community and mutual respect instilled in me by my late father, the Rt. Hon. Canon Justin Malewezi. I’ve been working in the field of education since 2004,

and my passion is to help young people reach their God given potential through life-changing learning.
